Ethics, Equity & Welfare

Spectrum article: Spring 2006

Angie Punaks, BWY Ethics, Equity & Welfare Manager writes:

CHILD PROTECTION (CP): teaching in a school, college etc
To clarify a query from a number of teacher-members, it is important for those of you who are teaching for a school, college, sports centre or other organisation that you follow that organisation’s own CP procedures. You need to ask who, within the organisation, is the CP referral person, and also request a copy of their CP Policy. The CP referral person should be able to explain their correct procedures, supported by their CP Policy. If the organisation does not have a CP Policy, then you should follow the BWY CP Policy. Those who teach independent classes will follow the BWY CP Policy.

CP TRAINING
"Good Practice and Child Protection" is a Sportscoach UK basic training which can be accessed locally. The 3-hour workshop covers Code of Conduct, good practice to help prevent child abuse, understanding and identifying signs of abuse and appropriate action to take in response to a concern. The book that accompanies the course is comprehensive and provides good reference material. To find the nearest course to you, contact:

Sportscoach UK Training: 01509 226130

As always, please ring or email me if you have any queries. Many thanks.
