Yoga is a living philosophy and as such is meant to be experienced. A philosophy that is separate from everyday life is worthless. The insights gained through the study of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and other sacred texts can be realised in daily life. Realisation in this context is the highest form ofknowing – knowledge through experience.
“Living Yoga” invites the individual to move from contemplation to living experience. Yoga offers us the tools to live consciously. Integrating Yoga into our lives brings stability, within ourselves and in society.
“Living Yoga” can be considered from many levels. At the most basic level “Living Yoga” simply means applying the theory, the method, the practice and the teaching of Yoga in our daily lives. On another level “Living Yoga“ is
an investigation into who we really are and living that realisation.

As part of BWY's commitment to the ongoing professional development of its teachers, BWY Diploma Course Tutors are required to attend a weekend dedicated to keeping their knowledge and skills up to date. The BWYT Committee has planned DCT Weekend to meet the mixed requirements of those who are running, or considering running, the Level 4 Diploma and those who don’t intend to do so, along with an invited keynote speaker. Another feature of the weekend will be an open-hearted get together for all called ‘Yogi’s Question Time’; along the lines of Radio 4’s Gardener’s Question Time with a panel of experts and a Chairman questions such as ‘What is Kundalini? Is it physical or in the mind.’ ‘Is Samadhi the ‘G’ spot of the brain’. ‘Does it really matter how Sanksrit terms are pronounced’ will be posed. We anticipate a lively audience/panellist interactive session with heckling and laughter, all controlled by the Chair. More Info
Teachers' Training Week
16th July 2012 - 20th July 2012: University of Leicester
Teachers’ Training Week begins at noon on Monday 16 and runs through to noon on Friday 20 July. The price includes accommodation in an en-suite single study room and all meals and refreshments. Each day there are up to six 90 minute slots, each offering a variety of up to three sessions (some of which are repeated) which the delegate can choose from.
Experienced tutors cover a wide range of yoga related subjects, with the aim of deepening individual practice and passing on advice and guidance to teachers wishing to develop their own teaching experience and style. If you are a BWY teacher each hour attended can count as 1 CPD point, so it is possible to get all 15 points during the week.
Whilst the week is aimed at teachers, the sessions are sufficiently broad to appeal to practitioners who just want to immerse themselves in a week of yoga.
The tutors include Bob Insley, whose focus is making ALL yoga postures accessible; Angela Ashwin, who ties the asana work directly to the philosophical teachings of yoga; Dr Ruth Gilmore, who specialises in anatomy and physiology, as it relates to yoga; and Andrea Kwiatkowski, an advanced certified teacher in Jivamukti.
13th April 2012 - 15th April 2012: Warwick University
It wasn't difficult to spot the 423 BWY members who gathered at Warwick University for Congress. Their yoga mats and big smiles gave them away!
The rain held off as our intrepid yogis navigated their way around the campus, which was easier than choosing between the 36 excellent tutors and 100 yoga related sessions. With almost 150 hours of yoga practice on offer, our yogis definitely needed time out for food and shopping! Congress 2012 Gallery
