Continuing Professional Development

Building your knowledge and practice is a key part of being a BWY teacher and the BWY provides a range of opportunities for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).  The CPD Guidelines and a related table of CPD points are here. You can maintain your CPD record in your members area.

15 CPD points should be accrued each calendar year.

Teachers who fail to complete 15 CPD points in any year may have their teaching membership status and insurance withdrawn. If a member accrues more than 15 CPD points in any one year, up to 5 points can be carried forward to the following year.

Exemption from CPD in any particular year may be allowed in the following circumstances
  • Personal illness or injury
  • Bereavement or severe illness of a close family member
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Moving house
  • Divorce/Separation
If you wish to claim exemption in any year, please contact Central Office so that your CPD record can be amended.  If you wish to claim a second year of exemption you must write to Central Office.  Your request will then be reviewed by the National In Service Training Officer (NISTO).
