The Viniyoga of Pranayama

AIMS OF UNIT ONE – There will be: a CD with an introduction and the sound of the metronome to assist with counting the breath
1)    TO EXPLORE THE USE OF SOUND IN ASANA
2)    TO USE A VARIETY OF SOUNDS IN A VINYASA
OBJECTIVES – There will be: use of the CD to practice the sounds used in the vinyasa
1)    TO USE SOUND IN ASANA TO EXTEND THE EXHALATION
2)     TO APPRECIATE THE FEEL OF RELAXING INTO THE POSTURE THROUGH USE OF SOUND
AIMS OF UNIT TWO – There will be: a talk through of the practice of Anuloma Ujjayi on the CD
1)    TO USE SOUND AND RATIOS IN A VINAYASA TO PREPARE FOR PRANAYMA
2)    TO  PRACTICE ANULOMA UJJAYI AT THE END OF THE VINYASA
OBJECTIVES
1)    TO USE THE TECHNIQUES IN THE VINYASA TO PREPARE FOR UJJAYI PRANAYAMA
2)    TO FEEL THE BENEFITS IN THE PRANAYAMA PRACTICE  DERIVED  FROM THE PREPARATION  IN THE VINYASA

AIMS OF UNIT THREE
1)    TO LEARN WHAT THE  MODERN YOGA MASTERS HAVE TO TELL US ABOUT THE PRACTICE OF PRANAYAMA
OBJECTIVES
1)    TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON THE TEXTS OF THE MODERN YOGA MASTERS
2)    TO WRITE A SHORT PIECE ON WHAT THE MODERN MASTERS ADVICE IS TO US ON THE PRACTICE OF PRANAYAMA
TEACHING MATERIAL USED ON THE COURSE
Approximately 14 pages in the course pack.  An audio CD as an introduction to the course with the sound of a metronome included and a guided practice of Anuloma Ujjayi
METHODS OF PRESENTING THE SUBJECT
Practicing the vinyasas in units one and two and then completing an evaluation of the vinyasa and returning this to the tutor for comments and advice.
Reading notes on the Modern Yoga Masters and completing a questionnaire to be returned to the tutor.
Completing a short essay on what you perceive as the advice given by the Modern Yoga Masters and returning this to the tutor for comments.
ABOUT THE TUTOR: MARGARET WOODLEY
Margaret Woodley
Margaret began yoga in the 1970s gaining her BWY diploma in 1982. She is a DCT running Distance Learning Diploma and IST courses for the Wheel. She spent time in India at the KYM with Desikachar and has worked with him on his visits to England. She was greatly influenced and encouraged by the late John Davies. She has a love of pranayama, which was instigated and encouraged by Paul Harvey during her time on his 4 year Practitioner course.
OUTLINE PLAN FOR THE RUNNING OF THE COURSE
  1. You will Register and pay on line. Print out these two pages to keep track.
  2. Your Tutor will be informed through the web site that you have been registered and will receive confirmation of all your contact details which you have filled in on line at 1. above.
  3. Your Tutor will send you a welcome letter with all their own contact details (by email) confirming to you within a few days, unless away on holiday.
  4. At the same time, they will give you a date for when you can expect to receive your material. This may be within 2 weeks or six months depending upon the course start date you have chosen
  5. Confirm to your Tutor, when you receive your course material, and also contact by email or phone should you have any queries.
    There will be 2 CD’s. CD 1 will be the audio practice/information CD.
    CD2 will have the  course material files on.
    You will down  load CD 2 onto your PC.and print off,  to give you a clearer overall view
    Then you will work on screen for the material which is to be returned to your Tutor. 
  6. Begin your course.
  7. You will have all the dates for completion in the letter you have had at 4. Above.
  8. Follow the dates carefully and let your Tutor know, should there be any holdup due to health, life event etc.
  9. When you have returned all your material to your Tutor and your Tutor has returned the material back to you, with their comments, then confirm that you  have received it.
  10. Finally, to complete the course, you will go back on line into your membership number and your original password chosen when at 1. above. Bring up the course evaluation page and fill in on line.
  11. When you enter the completed Evaluation, you will only then be registered as completed and gain the 7.5  CPD points and receive your Certificate.
    So. Please make sure that you send the Evaluation, otherwise your Office record will not be ‘official’
  12. There will be an additional button on your course tabs which you can enter to pass any other comments about the course and also suggestions for future topics
The course is expected to take between 5 to 6 hours of your time, but you can take more if you want to. If you miss the completion dates without an agreed reason, then you may keep the material but not have a refund.
