Introducing Chakras

AIMS OF THE COURSE:
1.    To offer seed ideas for introducing chakra concepts into yoga classes in the hope that this will stimulate course participants to develop their own approaches.
2.    To give yoga teachers greater confidence in developing and sharing their chakra understanding in their teaching.
3.    To develop physical awareness of the body
OBJECTIVES
1.    Participants will be able to reflect on their experience of a practice and form a view of which chakra(s) they tend to be primarily working with.
2.    Participants will have practised increasing their chakra knowledge via internet research.
3.    Participants will have experienced first a localising  of physical awareness via 9 tadasana practices followed  by a chakra contemplation practice.
4.    Participants will reflect on their personal experience of a chakra practice with a view to considering what, if any, components of that practice might be adaptable to use in their own yoga teaching.
TEACHING MATERIALS USED ON THE COURSE:
•    Audio CD “Some different approaches to Tadasana”.
•    Audio CD “A feather and chakra contemplation”.
•    CD-rom of course notes.
•    Internet for accessing website www.sudokasana.co.uk

•    Participant reflection guided by worksheets to be completed by participant.
COURSE PLAN
The course is in three parts:

Part 1. Practice of and reflection on some different approaches to Tadasana practice.

Participants practice different Tadasana practices as guided by the supplied audio CD. They then reflect on their experiences and indicate on the supplied table which chakra(s) each approach to Tadasana mainly works with.

Part 2. Guided internet research on when and how to adapt practice to emphasize a chakra.

Participants go to a specified part of a specified internet site to help them find information for completing a supplied table. Also included is a reflection on what chakra experiences they might have had.

Part 3. A Feather and Chakra Contemplation.

Participants practise a “chakra closing and grounding practice”, as guided by the supplied audio CD to give a “light” meditation-based introduction to mental chakra work. Then participants practise a “feather and chakra contemplation” as guided by a supplied audio CD – they then reflect on this, guided by a worksheet asking them to reflect both on their personal experience and on what aspects of this practice they may wish to take as seed ideas for developing their own teaching.
