Child Protection

If, as a BWY teacher, you are working with young people under 18 years of age, you need to be familiar with the BWY Child Protection Policy. Please click here to view full document.

British Wheel of Yoga teachers accept that all children and young people have the following basic rights:
  • to be valued as a person
  • to be treated with dignity and respect
  • to be cared for as a young person
  • to be kept safe

BWY teachers will provide a class in which each young person feels safe and cared for, is valued, and is treated with dignity and respect. BWY teachers will provide a duty of care to protect each young person from abuse.

Teaching yoga to the under 18s

Please look at the Checklist – BWY Safeguarding Procedures to the right of this page to find out what procedures you are required to follow; these will depend upon your teaching circumstances.  Contact Helen Smith, the BWY Equity & Welfare Manager, on the e-mail address or telephone number below, who can assist and advise you on all procedures.  If you are teaching private dedicated classes to children you need to complete a full paperwork application to the BWY, in other instances you may only need to apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for an Enhanced Disclosure certificate.  All teachers with under 18s in their classes should keep their Safeguarding Training updated every three years.

The factsheets on this page are designed to give you as much information as possible about what the Child Protection policy means for BWY teachers.  If in doubt, please contact the Equity & Welfare Manager.
