CPD

Guidelines for Continuing Professional Development - January 2012

15 CPD points need to be accrued every calendar year.
Teachers who fail to complete 15 points a year of CPD may have their Teaching Membership Status withdrawn.

HOW TO GAIN CPD POINTS

CPD points can be accrued by attendance/completion of 1 to 7.

1. IST Events

2. Distance Learning IST

These both accrue 7 ½ points because they have BWY-Approved Schemes of Work.

3. BWY Modules – Accrue 1 point per hour.

Numbers 1 to 3 – CAN be advertised stating the number of CPD points

4. Directed Private Study – Which must be for a minimum of 7.5 hours Home Study to accrue a Maximum of 5 CPD points in any one year.

5. Other Yoga Events or Relevant Training Events
Seminars or Workshops similar to class practice do not count.
These Events should DEVELOP/IMPROVE your TEACHING
They have the potential to count as 1 point per hour.
The Attendee needs to decide how many points an event can accrue, it is NOT up to the Organiser.
Number 5 CANNOT be advertised as CPD or state the number of CPD points.
It may be advisable to have confirmation of attendance from the organiser.

6. Observation of Teaching & Learning
If a BWY Teacher is employed by an organisation that has an OTL system, this will accrue 5 CPD points in one year.
All paperwork needs to be retained as proof.

7. Professional Development
See list below, this can accrue 5 CPD points in one year, towards your 15.

Non attendance of Events, it is expected that CPD points should not be continually and solely accrued in this manner, for more than three years, but there will be consideration of overseas teachers. Event Attendance is necessary to maintain good communication skills, which are required for good interaction between teacher and student.

15+ CPD POINTS
If more than 15 CPD pointsare accrued in any calendar year then up to 5 points can be carried forward to the following year.

CPD for DCTs

  1. DCTs need to accrue 15 points each year just as does the teacher membership. In addition,
  2. DCTs' must attend the DCT whole weekend, for which 5 points can be accrued towards their 15 points

If they unable to attend DCT weekend

  1. They need to contact the Administrator to the Education Committee at Central Office with reasons and state what actions are being taken for them to be updated on DCT matters.
  2. Plus they will need to accrue another 10 CPD points, of which there will need to be evidence – see professional development list below.
DIFFERENT LEVELS OF CPD
If you teach, assess or verify at a higher level, eg., Module Tutor, Foundation Course Tutor, Verifier/IQA, it is expected you accrue extra 5 CPD points for each role.
That is five more points over and above the basic 15. If you are active in all these areas, then extra study needs to be shown for each area.
