Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) – impact on teachers

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) exists to ensure that all exercise professionals who work in fitness and health centres have the required knowledge and are suitably qualified to safeguard the health and safety of people in their classes.

Leisure centres, fitness centres, local education authorities and local health authorities have been instructed by SkillsActive to utilise REPs when employing yoga teachers.

Being a member of the Register enables qualified yoga teachers to work in health and fitness centres; it is not relevant for BWY teachers who do not run these types of classes.

Teachers can join REPs through one of the following routes:

1. BWY Diploma Holders and BWY Accredited Teachers can join REPs at a reduced £8 when they renew their BWY membership.
2. All yoga teachers who are not accredited by the Wheel can apply directly to REPs and will be accepted if their qualifications match the National Occupational Standards (level 3). Standard fee is £25.
3. Yoga teachers not accredited by the Wheel may attain BWY accreditation by attending a Teacher's Integration Course. For more on BWY courses click here.
