BWY Safeguarding Procedures
BWY teachers will provide a duty of care to protect young and vulnerable students from abuse. To this end we have produced a number of procedures BWY Teachers are required to follow when teaching young or vulnerable students; specific procedures will depend upon the teaching circumstances. To view these procedures please click on the Teacher's Resources and Insurance link.Contact Helen Smith, the BWY Equity & Welfare Manager, on the e-mail address or telephone number below, who can assist and advise you on all procedures.
Child Protection
If, as a BWY teacher, you are working with young people under 18 years of age, you need to be familiar with the BWY Child Protection Policy. Please click here to view full document. British Wheel of Yoga teachers accept that all children and young people have the following basic rights:
- to be valued as a person
- to be treated with dignity and respect
- to be cared for as a young person
- to be kept safe
If you are teaching private dedicated classes to children you need to complete a full paperwork application to the BWY, in other instances you may only need to apply to the Criminal Records Bureau for an Enhanced Disclosure certificate. All teachers with under 18s in their classes should keep their Safeguarding Training updated every three years.
The factsheets on this page and in the Teachers' Resources page are designed to give you as much information as possible about what the Child Protection policy means for BWY teachers. If in doubt, please contact the Equity & Welfare Manager.
