BWYQ PROGRESSION COURSE in Yoga

CERTIFICATE (290hrs) to DIPLOMA(500hrs) in Yoga Teacher Training

This course is for those who have successfully finished their Teacher Training Certificates but feel they would like to study more pranayama, meditation, yoga philosophy and subtle points in asana to complete their training to the Diploma level. This course will build on their previous teacher training that would have included yoga anatomy, basic breathing, lesson and course planning and the responsibilities of a yoga teacher. Students’ progress will be assessed through written assignments, presentations, microteaching of peers, keeping pranayama and meditation diary, observation of personal classes.

BWYQ Progression Course: Stepping Beyond | Tutor: Dr Cathy-Mae Karelse

In a world of pandemics, our minds more often than not veer towards meaning, purpose and how to live in a fast-changing world. Midst uncertainty, the BWYQ Progression Course does what it says on the tin: it takes BWYQ Teacher Training Certificate holders through philosophy, meditation, pranayama and subtle teachings of yoga for you to earn a Diploma.

This course does more than enhance your professional qualification though. It fosters your personal development, offering a richer, fuller, elevated appreciation of the essence of yoga. You cultivate your pranayama, mindfulness and meditation muscles while being exposed to the rich traditions of yoga philosophy. But it does all of this in the real context of current global times.

On this course we take a practical approach, asking what these rich teachings mean in today’s world and how they help us build inclusive societies. We apply the teachings to our lives and our work. Integrating a full8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Programme as part of our learning, we cultivate our ability to live with greater awareness, transform patterns that no longer serve us and cultivate ones that do. In this way, we learn how to integrate mindfulness into our teaching.

You will be supported in your learning through:

  • presentations, discussions, on-course peer-to-peer teaching and feedback
  • individual and group mentoring sessions and peer support
  • understanding how to build diversity and inclusion into your programme, and
  • participating in and completing an MBSR Programme.

The online course will run from March - September 2022. Upon completion, you will be awarded a BWYQ Teaching Diploma.

Introductory Sessions, either: Wed 19th Jan, 1900-2100 OR Sun 30th Jan, 1700-1900 OR

Tues 1st Feb, 1800-2000.

16 course days are made up of 12 Saturdays or Sundays and 15 Wednesday evening 2-hour sessions spread over March – July. The MBSR programme runs Wed 9thMar –11th May.

Main Tutor: Cathy-Mae Karelse is the main tutor.

Guest tutors include: Astra Farquharson, Surrinder Chera, Tarik Dervish and Laura le Feuvre, all BWY Teachers and/or DCTs. Aside from learning how to apply yoga philosophy, and teach pranayama and meditation, experience of the full MBSR programme grants you the opportunity to enrich your yoga teaching.

This BWYQ Progression Course runs under the auspices of Clear Mind International. We love our values and are keen to make yoga relevant to life today while acknowledging and respecting the source of these generous gifts to humanity. To honour yogic traditions, we learn about the history and application of Yoga from an embodied justice perspective.
