Aims of the Morning

To educate & explain the anatomical workings of the respiratory system
To explain tensegrity & specifically tensegrity of the ribs
To guide breathing practices to experience this


To undertsand the anatomy of the respiratory system
To understand the tensegrity of the ribs
To undertsnd how this system interfaces with yoga practices

Aims of the Afternoon

To reinforce the learning of the morning and answer any questions that arose from reflection over lunch
To look at habitual breathing patterns
To explain how the respiratory system affects posture and vice versa


To appreciate what habitual breathing patterns are
To experience how posture affects the respiratory system and vice versa
To develop a deeper sense of breath awareness
To understand the physiological effects of the respiratory network
To tune in to the subtleties of posture and movement with the breath
To endeavour to unify breath and movement

Lap top & projector for presentation of photos, diagrams etc; skeleton, models & props to illustrate the respiratory system

About the Tutor

Gary has over 25 years of experience in movement physical training, anatomical study and bodywork practices. he has lectured extensively on the anatomy of Yoga in the UK, Europe and America. He is the founder of the Natural Bodies centre in Brighton. he is committed to teach, train and encourage kinaesthetic awareness, ease of movement and efficient body use. 10.00 to 11.30 a.m. Introduction explore student expectations for day
& find out their prior underpinning A & P knowledge
- Anatomy of ribs and spine
- Breathing practices to feel these areas
- Tensegrity
- Tensegrity of the ribs
- Physiology of the lungs

11.30 to 12.30 p.m. Myofascial tensegrity of respiration.

12.30 to 1.30 p.m. LUNCH


1.30 to 2.00 p.m. Questions - & revisiting theory to consolidate understanding

2.00 to 3.45 A look at habitual breathing patterns. Exploring the freedom of the breath
Exploring postures and the breath from Tadasana to Sirsasana
