Information about the course
The BWY Foundation Course is a 60-hour personal development course for anyone who has been attending yoga classes for 2 years or more with a recognised yoga teacher.
The aim of the course is to go deeper into the teachings of yoga than a typical yoga class allows, providing students with the knowledge, the tools and the space to deepen their relationship with yoga. The course will cover a comprehensive range of asana, pranayama, meditation, mudra, mantra,Kriya, yogic anatomy (chakras, nadis), relaxation, as well as covering the history of yoga, yoga philosophy (including the Yoga Sutras attributed to Patanjali)and the different schools and paths of yoga.
I took the course myself in 2007 and as well as deepening my personal yoga practice and knowledge of yoga, I would say it was a life changing experience. I’ve been wanting to give this experience back for some time and am very excited to be getting ready to do so.
There will be two free taster sessions in October, spaces are limited and booking essential. Please see details of the course and taster sessions below.
The BWY Foundation course is for:
* students who wish to deepen their personal yoga practice, increase their knowledge of yoga and meet likeminded yogis.
* those considering yoga teacher training as a future option – the course provides a good introduction to and preparation for Certificate and Diploma teaching courses
The course will be held on 10 Saturdays over 11 months, from January 2020 to November 2020 – there will be no session in August.
To qualify for the certificate, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.
The course follows the BWY syllabus and is approximately 50% practice and 50% theoretical. Although there is no compulsory written homework – no essays, students will be expected to keep a personal practice journal (written, auditory, photographical or other) and background research (reading, listening to audio books, watching videos etc) is encouraged.
Applications are welcome from students from all backgrounds, with a minimum of 2 years consistent practice with a teacher.
Investment:£550, plus £60 BWY course registration fee for certification and verification. Payment plans are available and there is a refund policy in place.
Students will need to be current members of the British Wheel of Yoga to start the course – if you are not a member already, joining is easy. The BWY membership fee is currently £37.
Venue:My small home yoga studio in Sidcup, so space is limited. This course will be small and friendly, with a maximum of 9 participants.
Free Taster Sessions will take place on Saturday October 12th 2019.The first will be 10.30am – 1pm and the second 2.30pm – 5pm. Each taster session has a maximum of 9 participants, so though the sessions are freespaces are limited and booking is essential.
The free taster sessions are for you to find out more about the course and experience a taster of the philosophy that we will be covering, as well as doing some asana, pranayama, and meditation practices. This is where you can get a flavour of the content and meet other applicants and ask questions. You do not have to come to a taster session to apply for a space on the course but it is recommended.
2020 Course dates:
Each day will begin at 9.30am, end at 4.45pm and will include 6 hours of course content plus a lunch break and tea breaks. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please note there will be no session during August.
