Information about the course
The BWY Foundation Course is a 60-hour personal development course for anyone who has been attending yoga classes for 2 years or more with a recognised yoga teacher.

The aim of the course is to go deeper into the teachings of yoga than a typical yoga class allows, providing students with the knowledge, the tools and the space to deepen their relationship with yoga.  The course will cover a comprehensive range of asana, pranayama, meditation, mudra, mantra, Kriya, yogic anatomy (chakras, nadis), relaxation, as well as covering the history of yoga, yoga philosophy (including the Yoga Sutras attributed to Patanjali) and the different paths of yoga.

I took the course myself in 2007 and as well as deepening my personal yoga practice and knowledge of yoga, I would say it was a life changing experience.
There will be a free taster sessions on the 4th of December 2021, spaces are limited and booking essential.

The BWY Foundation course is for:

* students who wish to deepen their personal yoga practice, increase their knowledge of yoga and meet likeminded yogis.

* those considering yoga teacher training as a future option – the course provides a good introduction to and preparation for Certificate and Diploma teaching courses

The course will be held on 20 Saturday afternoons over 11 months, from January 2022 to December 2022 – there will be no session in August.

To qualify for the certificate, a minimum of 80% attendance is required.

The course follows the BWY syllabus and is approximately 50% practice and 50% theoretical.  Although there is no compulsory written homework – no essays, students will be expected to keep a personal practice journal (written, auditory, photographical or other) and background research (reading, listening to audio books, watching videos etc) is encouraged.

Applications are welcome from students from all backgrounds, with a minimum of 2 years consistent practice with a teacher.

Investment: £600, plus £60 BWY course registration fee for certification and verification. Payment plans are available and there is a refund policy in place.

Students will need to be current members of the British Wheel of Yoga to start the course – if you are not a member already, joining is easy.  The BWY membership fee is currently £37.

Venue: The Howard Venue, 39 Egerton Avenue, Hextable, Kent, BR8 7LG

The free Taster Session will take place on Saturday 4th of December 2021 at 2 pm finishing at 4.45 pm.  The taster session has a maximum of 18 places, so though the session is free spaces are limited and booking is essential.

The free taster session is for you to find out more about the course and experience a taste of the philosophy that we will be covering, as well as doing some asana, pranayama, and meditation practices.  This is where you can get a flavour of the content and meet other applicants and ask questions.  You do not have to come to a taster session to apply for a space on the course but it is recommended.

Each afternoon of the course will begin at 1.45 pm and end at 5 pm and will include 3 hours of course content plus a refreshment break.

Please note there will be no session during August.

What past students have said:

"I liked the mix of physical practice and theory during each learning day. Clair is an excellent teacher with a great deal of knowledge and patience.”

"I have been practicing yoga for many years now and what i really enjoyed about the course was how it opened my eyes to the bigger picture of yoga other than it being purely about the practice of asana.  It was lovely to expand my knowledge on a subject that I very much enjoy . Finally meeting up with friends and other like-minded yogis was a nice thing to be doing.”

"I liked the fact that I could see the progression I was making in my personal practice and the confidence it gave me to try new things and to put a routine together knowing that I knew what postures I needed to do before and after say inversions. I liked learning about the history of yoga and also ratio breathing. So very glad I decided to do this course and with such a great tutor, who goes out of her way to make sure you understand all the content covered and interact between the group.

"I loved this course and can't believe it's gone so quickly and i will be quite sad when it ends. This has

been one of the best things i have done for myself. Thank you Clair and BWY for having these courses.

"I really enjoyed being with the other yogis on the foundation course and learning from each other and sharing our experiences. I loved learning about the Philosophy. I found it so interesting and gaining a deeper understanding was extremely enriching for me. I also loved the journaling part and I am still finding it extremely helpful to get stuff out of my head and onto paper. This is a practice I will also continue. I also enjoyed the experimental of going deeper within my asana practice to notice the more subtle reactions within my body. I would definitely recommend the Foundation course for any yogi who wants to explore and deepen their yoga practice further away from the class.

"Clair has done an amazing job of teaching us the syllabus.  It helped me to commit to practicing yoga more regularly at home. It made me aware of how yoga can become a way of life in the choices I make. I have more awareness now of different pranayama and meditation techniques. I found learning about the 8 limbs of yoga really interesting.”
