UNIT 1: 42 hours (4 credits) - E-Learning theory to be done at home with interactive videos and written worksheets submitted by email.
UNIT 2: 84 hours (9 credits) - Face to Face practical days on 2nd-3rd July in the Minerva Room at the Westgate Leisure Centre, Via Ravenna, Chichester PO19 1RJ – to observe a GYY class, to practise chair-based yoga techniques and dharana activities and to teach the techniques face to face in small groups. After the weekend, you will have access to a video gallery of techniques to practise at home and a chance to teach your peers online via Zoom, to be arranged later in July, with informal assessment and feedback. Coursework: planning and preparing to teach a 6-week GYY course, then delivering it either face to face or online, with one session being observed/assessed by a qualified assessor. The final assignment is to write case studies on two of your older adult students with different health conditions.
ASSESSMENTS:
To be conducted by BWY DCT Felicity Leigh, a GYY tutor and BWY Diploma Course Tutor
ACHIEVEMENT:
Upon successful completion and quality assurance of the assessments for Units 1 and 2 (126 hours or 13 credits), you will be able to submit a claim for the BWYQ Level 4 Certificate in Teaching Gentle Years Yoga, a national qualification on Ofqual’s Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
You will also be placed on the Gentle Years Yoga register so that interested agencies, health commissioners and/or social prescribers will be able to locate you as one of the fully qualified Gentle Years Yoga teachers.
PREQUISITE
Level 3 Teaching Yoga qualification or equivalent (any tradition)
NATIONAL OCCUPATOINAL STANDARDS:
Adapting physical activity for older adults including adults at risk or those with disabilities (SKAEF)
SAFEGUARDING ADULTS:
Learning how to protect adults at risk when teaching in the community, residential care home or online

If you think you already have credits for a unit, you can apply for Recognised Prior Learning via an application form provided by the tutor.
FEES:
£660 in total is payable in full to BWY upon acceptance to the course.
VENUE:
Westgate Leisure Centre, Minerva Room, Via Ravenna, Chichester PO19 1RJ
is a fully accessible, modern venue owned by Chichester District Council and managed by Everyone Active.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
The venue is 0.3 mile from Chichester Railway Station which is easily accessible on the Southern line from areas across the southern part of England, including London. You can catch the 7:05 direct train from London Victoria on Saturday and be in Chichester by 8:37, just in time for the 9 AM start.Popular budget airlines flying into London Gatwick from across the UK include RyanAir and Easyjet. There is direct train service – taking less than 1 hours - from Gatwick to Chichester station every 30 minutes.
B&B ACCOMMODATION:
Because Chichester is a popular location in the summer, the tutor has reserved a few hotel rooms for Saturday night, 2ndJuly at the quieter Premier Inn (0.7 mile to the venue) or the slightly cheaper but noisier Vestry Hotel in the town centre (0.4 mile to the venue) which includes breakfast. The additional cost for an out of town attendee wanting accommodation ranges from £125-138 for one night -- please contact Laura if interested. There are plenty of nearby restaurants in the area.
CAR PARKING:
There is a large council-owned pay and display car park at the venue (first 2 hours are free) with 6 disabled car parking spaces, plus there are 3 disabled car parking spaces directly in front of the venue entrance.
FOOD:
There is a café in the Westgate Leisure Centre with wifi and they are happy to rope off a section for our group to sit together for lunch. There is also a Waitrose nearby.Unit 2 Practical Days with tutor – 2nd-3rd July at the venue from 9:00 to 18:00
The practical weekend will be followed by Zoom sessions to be arranged for later in July with Laura and Felicity. Students will then plan and deliver a 6 week course with one session to be assessed.
