Information on the module
This modular course has been designed for qualified teachers to develop skills in providing safe and effective Yoga Therapy practises that are appropriate for specific physical and mental chronic health conditions. The focus will be ‘person centred’ as opposed to ‘one cure fits all’ and teachers will learn to be more adept and creative in using different models of practise suitable for the needs of individuals and the conditions they are suffering fro

The Content
Each day will consist of exploring Yoga Therapy for topics such as The Elderly, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Mental Health, Cancer, Neurology, Spinal and Musculo-skeletal conditions.
The emphasis of learning will be experiential with opportunities to design Yoga Therapy Programmes through case studies. Students will learn key issues relating to different health conditions through a group quiz, informative handouts and group discussions. They will be encouraged to keep reflective diaries during home practise to develop an understanding of the value of ‘felt experience’ of being in the practise as opposed to doing the practise. Breathing practises, self compassion meditations and mindful yoga sequences will be the foundations for easing pain and stress in the mind, body and breath.

The Teacher
Nikki Jackson has worked extensively with mental and physical health conditions in the NHS and private sector for over 28 years, both as a senior Occupational Therapist and Yoga Therapist. She qualified as a BWY teacher in 1998 and founded Yoga Focus in 1999. She is a Mindfulness for Health Teacher (having trained with "Breathworks”, International leaders in Mindfulness for Health) and regularly runs 8 week courses for Pain and Stress Management related to a variety of health conditions. She is a speaker for Health Festivals in Oxfordshire, promoting the importance of empowering communities to be more responsible for their health, happiness and purpose in life.
