Tutor: Susan Lodge

Date: 30th June 2019

Time: 10:00 - 16:00

Location: Scotby Vllage Hall

Type of Event: IST Days

Places Available: 13

The focus of the IST day is Developing Understanding of the Yoga Sutras in a General Class. Looking specifically at the Sutra on Abhyasa and Variagya - 'persevering practice and dispassion' .

About the Tutor

My yoga practice began in 1997, followed by intensive study in Spain in 2003/4. This led me to train as a yoga teacher and I have been teaching ever since. My love of the classical texts and the teachings of TKV Desikachar have drawn me into a long standing personal study and training with a range of teachers in this tradition. I am currently studying aspects of personal practice with Paul Harvey. Since 2011 I have been leading workshops, short courses and holidays using classic texts, particularly the Sutras, to illuminate and inform the practices. I combine teaching yoga with a 30 year career in education.

Qualifications: BWY Dip 2009, Yoga For Health Foundation Cert 2004, MA(Ed), PGCE

Aims of the Morning

To engage students in asana and pranayama practices which demonstrate practical methods for presenting themes from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in general yoga classes.

To support teachers in evaluating their personal understanding of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras so that they can begin to use concepts which they feel confident with.

To provide resources and sources of information and training which might help secure areas for development.

To revise, recall and explore current understanding of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

To interpret and discuss methods presented incorporating each student's personal ideas and experience.

Aims of the Afternoon

To encourage collaborative planning in order to share expertise, support creative thinking and generate a wealth of ideas.

To equip students with a simple model for planning individual lessons and longer term (6 week) plans.
