Finding more
mobility in our ribs and spine through turning and twisting
Turning and
twisting are important elements of our human movement repertoire.
From getting
out of bed to looking around us to walking and running, we need to be able to
use the movements of our ribs and spine well in order to turn freely and
efficiently.
During this day we will explore many components of turning and
twisting while working in different positions and contemplating how this
influences our daily activities or our yoga practice and teaching. There will
also be room for questions and observations.
The Feldenkrais Method® was developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, an engineer and martial arts teacher, and provides a way of learning more about how we move, think and feel, fostering our self-development, health and well-being. It is taught in group classes called Awareness Through Movement and individual lessons called Functional Integration and uses movement and perception to help us improve the way we move in daily life, in sports or the performance arts.
In a process of exploring various movements we learn to become more aware of our individual movement and holding habits, how they help or hinder us, and can begin to find alternative, more comfortable and more efficient solutions.
The day will be lead by Sabine Schmid Blackaby. Sabine has for many years worked with children, exploring various movement disciplines. Sabine trained as a Feldenkrais teacher in Italy, becoming a practitioner in 1997. In 2006 Sabine completed a three year mentoring course in Amsterdam and now also work with students taking part in a Feldenkrais training or with newly qualified practitioners.
