IST - Yoga with a Change of Heart

14th April 2018
at Adastra Hall

IST - Yoga with a Change of Heart

Tutor: John Stirk

Date: 14th April 2018

Time: 10:00 - 16:00

Location: Adastra Hall

Type of Event: IST Days

Places Available: 0

This workshop begins with the body and mind and leads us towards the condition of open-heartedness.
It suggests that while acknowledging the deep and various changes that occur to the practitioner/student of yoga, the fundamental change comes from the heart. One can be In yoga, and Of Yoga with or without the element of unconditional love. Although the nature and relevance of love is well documented by yoga philosophy this workshop will draw attention to the body as a way of opening the heart.
We will confirm that when the element of love is brought into practice, our physical and mental texture changes profoundly. We will approach and experience tension as a good thing, and highlight its potential as our most valuable teacher.

John requests that you please bring bolsters or two blankets for the day

John Stirk is one of the UKs leading yoga teachers and his work has been evolving over a 38 year period. He taught remedial classes at the Royal Academy of Dance and lectured in biomechanics and practical osteopathy at the college of Osteopaths in London. He has been influenced by the work of R.D. Laing of whom he was a student and ran Body/Mind workshops for many years and Vanda Scaravelli, with whom he had personal tuition for several years. Other influences include the work of Moshe Feldenkrais, J. Krishnamurti, Ida Rolf, John Wernham, William Sutherland and Emilie Conrad. John has published several books and numerous magazine articles, ran teacher training courses and teaches around the UK and internationally. John’s predominant inspiration arises from an ongoing investigation into the relationship between the quality of our patterns of movement and our way of being. His work, while blending Eastern and Western approaches to health and personal growth, continues to evolve as a consequence of creative exploration in the moment.
