IST CHAIR YOGA

Tutor: Mary Mackie

Date: 30th March 2019

Time: 10:00 - 15:45

Location: Ashington Village Hall

Type of Event: IST Days

This interactive and practical workshop, which is based on the Eight Limbs of Yoga, will enable us to develop our knowledge of common conditions found in an ageing population along with an understanding of some chronic conditions causing disabilities.

By the sharing of ideas in workshop style we will learn how to build a flowing chair based yoga practice to enhance and enable yoga for the less able or elderly bringing an increased state of physical and mental wellbeing both in the class setting, at home and in off the mat activities of daily living.

You will need your usual yoga equipment plus any props that you have such as blocks, blankets, straps, stretchy bands, 7” soft-exercise balls, golf ball, tennis ball.

Mary originally trained as a nurse, specialising in the Continuing care of the terminally ill and Bereavement, eventually working as a nurse practitioner in general practice. She strived then as she does now to empower people to be in charge of their own well-being.
Having practised yoga since 1978 and taught since 1985, her style has evolved and she now draws inspiration from the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli as well as many of her other teachers.
She is a Yoga Therapist for the Yoga Biomedical Trust, a Yoga teacher and a DCT involved in the piloting of BWYQ.
Holistic Yoga is her passion and she feels that body movement coupled with breath and meditation are the backbone of healthy living. She endeavours to pass these principles on to her students.
Mary and her associates offer a range of courses and workshops which are aimed at yoga teachers and learners, including a 5-day Chair Yoga workshop and one day Chair Yoga workshops.
