Aims of the Morning

1) To establish some common ground for Sutra discussion (given the many and varied interpretations available)
2) Increase participants confidence of their current knowledge 

Objectives

1) To participate in discussion of Chapters one to four
2) To participate in discussion of how Sutra wisdom can be brought into general Yoga teaching. 

Aims of the Afternoon

1) Present an Asana session based on Sutra 'Theme
2) Guidance on different approaches for different students (teaching skills) 

Objectives

1) Participate in an Asana based on a sutra theme . 2) Gained ideas, and improved confidence to bring sutras insights and practical instruction into general class teaching.

About the Tutor

Jane took up Yoga in 1979, and later trained with the BWY; she taught for Islington LEA over 10 years, later teaching in health clubs in London, and working with private clients. Jane taught numerous IST's over the years on various subjects. 

Jane studied the Yoga Sutras in Mysore with Hema Venkatesh over a 2 month period in 2003. Much of it went over her head!     But slowly, slowly some understanding has come. She generally attend one or two retreats, several workshop intensives, and various courses every year; Jane recently did a 21 hours accredited training in Restorative Yoga with Jodi Boone at Satsanga Yoga retreat and attended four 3 hours workshops on Yoga Philosophy with Emil Wendel. 

Outline plan for the day

10-10.15 Introduction, overview of the day ahead
10.15-10.30 Focusing, pranayama, meditation
10.30-11.15 Summary of chapters 1 to 4, highlighting specific areas we will focus on; some guidance on ways of communicating sutra insights to different types of students.
11.15-12 Practical examples of how to bring Sutra insights and wisdom into general teaching
12-1 Into groups for practical, each group appoints someone to feedback after lunch 

1-2 LUNCH

2-3 Feedback, comments, Q & A  
3-3.45 Plenary, meditation
3.45-4 Evaluation forms  

 
 
Participants will be invited to bring along their preferred Sutras book(s) with a view to being invited to share their understanding or perhaps confusion during the day.
