Tutor: Alistair Shearer

Date: 12th July 2020

Time: 10:30 - 17:00

Location: Swansea Wellbeing Centre

Type of Event: Open Day

Places Available: 24

This week-end seminar will examine various aspects of yoga with an acknowledged and experienced guide known for his ability to render complex subjects in a lively and engaging way. The seminar will fall into two halves. One will be an in-depth exploration of various key, and often misunderstood, concepts presented in Patanjali's classic text, the Yoga Sutra. Complementing this textual work will be an account of the variegated history of modern postural practice, including a look at what happens when an ancient spiritual praxis is uprooted and transplanted into a modern secular context.

As an authority on Indian culture, Alistair Shearer has taught for various prestigious institutions, including London University (SOAS) and the British Museum. His translation of the Yoga Sutras has been continuously in print for the last thirty-five years, while his other books have been translated into the major European languages, as well as Japanese and Hebrew. Alistair is a seasoned teacher of meditation; his latest project has been to create an award-winning retreat facility in Kerala, south India.
