A morning of Somatic Yoga Inquiry
Somatic Yoga addresses part of the nervous system associated with voluntary control of body movements. Somatic movements are slow and mindful, allowing us to break out of unhelpful, habitual movement patterns, increasing ease of movement.
The word somatic means "of or relating to the living body."
In order to be most effective, a somatic movement should be performed as slowly as possible.
They must also be performed consciously, with our complete internal focus and attention. Somatic movement is exploratory in nature, we need to be focused on the internal experience and process rather than the end result.
The session will be mostly ground based movements, laying down on back, front and side, exploring various ways to transition between these positions, with lightness and grace.
A witness presence is developed as we open up to our kinesthetic learning experience….
Therefore, the morning will have a philosophical theme of Self Observation and Wise use of Energy (Brahmacharya)..with discussion and exploration of these concepts within our movements…
Breath awareness will be key throughout the morning.
We will conclude the session with a full somatic relaxation.
