IST 19/818 Integrating Philosophy into General Classes

The day will start with a practical session, followed by tutor presentations and instructions with plenty of space for discussion.

Aims of the Morning

1. to let participants experience yoga philosophy on the mat

2. to show that the core of Patanjali's teachings are instructions for practice

Aims of the Afternoon

1. to demonstrate the purpose of asanas, pranayama and savasana as stated in the classical raja and hatha texts

2. to instruct participants in the practice of asana, pranayama and savasana as portrayed in the classical texts.

About the Tutor

Angela has practiced yoga, and learnt from many teachers from all different backgrounds, for over 30 years. After completing a degree in Theology and Philosophy she gained a BWY diploma. She has taught yoga for over 20 years. Angela trained as a DCT and is presently teaching her fifth diploma course. She teaches regular classes, one to one, workshops and IST days.  She has also taught at the BWY South West Festival , on National training week, on DCT weekends and at National Congress.

Outline plan for the day


10.15am practical hatha session: experience maya

11.15am A run through the core of Patanjali's teaching1,1 - 1,16 on the mat to
understand how that teaching instructs us to practice

1.00pm Lunch

2.00pm Asanas practiced according to Patanjali
Pranayama practiced according to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Patanjali
Savasana, as instructed in the classical texts

4.45 pm Closing: feedback to the day and filling in of evaluation forms

Other information

The day is aimed at qualified teachers, or teachers in training who have finished Unit 3 of the BWY diploma course or an equivalent.

Please bring your own lunch.  Drinks and refreshments will be provided free of charge.  
Please also bring your own yoga mats, blocks and belts.

Early Bird discount is available provided you book and pay by Saturday 7 September 2019.
