History of Yoga in Practice

Tutor: Wendy Teasdill

Date: 19th September 2020

Time: 10:00 - 16:00

Location: Online

Type of Event: CPD Days

Places Available: 11

A day dedicated to deepening our awareness of the pedigree of the postures we do every day. From the mysterious seals of the Indus Valley Civilisation, the obscure poetry of the Rig Veda through the Upanishads, Buddhism and Puranas to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, we embody practices whose origins may be obscure but which we are each free to manifest on our own mats every day.

Backed up by presentation and handouts, the morning is a practical session with aspects of the history and underpinning philosophies of Yoga drip-fed in. The afternoon is dedicated to consolidating through discussion and group work what we did in the morning - as well as bringing it all into the present and finishing off with a Yoga Nidra integrating images of all that has been covered. A very busy but hopefully enjoyable day with plenty of food for thought.

Wendy Teasdill has been practising Yoga for nearly forty years. She started with Iyengar Yoga but when, after fifteen years she became pregnant and began to throw up every time she did a downward dog - she had to find a different way. At the time she was in Hong Kong, and information was hard to come by. Through trial and error she developed a practice which sustained her through all three pregnancies - and beyond. Her style combines the stability of her Iyengar roots with a fluidity which honours the new life within - whatever the accompanying conditions.
